How We Help
Our help program
Crisis shelter
First of all, Jua offers crisis care for girls who are removed from an unsafe home situation by the Kenyan child protection agency or the justice system and who are are then placed Jua rescue center.
Help program
We first identify the care needs, medical, psychosocial and legal, and start a tailor-made help program.
Home situation
We also immediately map out the girl's home situation by means of a home visit so that there is a clear picture of the family's situation and need for help.
Self-reliance
Everything we do at Jua is aimed at empowering the girls. We want to inspire and encourage every girl to develop self-reliance.
Home-based care program
When the help program is completed and after research it appears that the home situation is safe enough, the girls go back home. From this moment on, they are monitored in their own environment and further guided in a home-based care program. This program is tailored to the needs of the family and aimed at a stable and independent future
When necessary, a field worker assists the family for 2 years
The girls find recognition and understanding with each other
Home-based care program
In our home-based care program we follow the girls for another two years after they have returned to their own environment and it has been determined that it is safe. We work on the self-reliance of the girls and the entire family, improving their living conditions and their economic capacity.
We do this through poverty alleviation, education and the provision of resources, tailored to the needs of the family. Every year the family is visited three times by a field worker from Jua to monitor the situation and progress at a number of fixed points.
At the same time, we measure the effectiveness of our assistance against pre-set goals. Because this works well and because the Kenyan government is increasingly committed to home-based care, we want to further expand the resources for this program.
