Care and guidance for the girls and their babies

Our mission
The Jua Foundation is committed to helping girls in Kenya who urgently need help after (sexual) domestic violence. We work in a future-oriented manner and focus on empowerment. Together with the girls and their families, we work to increase their economic independence and a stable future.
How we help!
At the Jua rescue center in the coastal province of Kenya we care for girls up to the age of 18 who have experienced (sexual) domestic violence. In many cases, these girls are pregnant and/or infected with HIV. The girls are housed here by the Kenyan child protection agency. They receive the help they need until their home situation is safe enough to return home.
Jua rescue center
The Jua Foundation aims to reduce violence against girls, protect their rights and develop a future perspective together with them, so that they can stand on their own two feet.
Kracht, licht & leven
Jua means Sun in Swahili and stands for strength, light and life! Nelleke Hols, initiator of the Jua Foundation, wants to give this to this group of girls. 14 years ago in Kenya, Nelleke was deeply affected by the suffering caused by (sexual) domestic violence among girls and she wanted to do something for them
Founded in 2010
After consultation with the Kenyan child protection agency, Nelleke founded the foundation in 2010 and the rescue center opened in 2022. With her years of experience as a social worker and domestic violence coordinator, Nelleke and the Kenyan team work daily to help girls who need urgent help.
